Bill Kristol, the conservative American commentator has a gift for a good quote, “I’m honestly not too worried … I’m confident the Reagan Republicans will prevail over the Snowden Republicans.” He was framing the debate between Republicans in the Bush-Cheney mould — who favour exerting American power around the world — and Libertarian Republicans — who want to limit America’s involvement in foreign entanglements and want to put tough limits on surveillance at home. “Snowden” is a reference to Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency whistleblower and resident of Sheremetyevo Airport.
