A new study suggests that women are half as likely as men to be diagnosed with one of the leading causes of heart problems. Atrial fibrillation is one of the leading causes of stroke. Women, the study concluded, came to the doctor’s office dressed smartly and looking health so doctors assumed they must be well. the doctors then did not conduct the recommended tests.

An important caveat: the study was conducted in France. Women in British and American doctors’ offices may be saving their lives by turning up in track suits and jeans.
